Court of General Quarter Sessions of the Peace
Formerly, a court of criminal jurisdiction in New Jersey. In English law, a court of criminal jurisdiction held in each county once in every quarter of a year, but in the county of Middlesex twice a month. When held at other times than quarterly, the sessions were called "general sessions of the peace." Quarter sessions were abolished by the Courts Act of 1971, with most jurisdiction transferred to the Crown Court (q.v.)
